Creative @ COMDEX

Special Feature

Las Vegas, Friday 22nd - Hell broke loose that day. The crowd which gathered at the stage grew wilder and more hysterical. With outstretched hands, they clamored for more, "We want more! We want more!" Their chorus reverberated through the hall like a groupie chanting with great reverence.

But this was no ordinary crowd. They were not fanatic fans demanding for an encore or a rowdy bunch of teens creating a racket.

.
They were visitors of COMDEX ’96 and fans of Creative Labs - makers of Sound Blaster. The uproar occurred at the main theater of Creative’s booth, located at Sands Expo Center, Las Vegas. Creative’s five-day stage performance closed with a climax. Attendees repeatedly chanted the name "AWE64" as they clamoured for more demos and Sound Blaster AWE64s. And they couldn’t contain their excitement when the inventor of Sound Blaster - Sim Wong Hoo (Creative’s CEO) was introduced. It was amazing to witness the crowd’s fiery enthusiasm. They wanted to pose with him, shake his hands and even get his autograph! Throng of visitors rushing to get Creative CEO's autograph

Creative @ COMDEX
This year’s COMDEX/Fall ‘96 (the world’s most important IT industry trade show) was certainly an eventful affair for Creative Labs. COMDEX, opened on Nov 18, saw the launch of Creative’s new flagship product - Sound Blaster AWE64 and AWE64 Gold. Sound Blaster AWE64 series is a 16-bit card with 64 voice polyphony (not 64-bit) and advanced features such as WaveGuide Synthesis.

Other than showcasing the latest products, Creative prepared a host of activities to highlight the practical applications of its products and to entertain as well as to challenge visitors.

The MIDIgators
To show what Sound Blaster AWE64 can really do, five of Creative’s talented staff formed a MIDI band - the MIDIgators - and put up a spectacular performance at every half hour. The MIDIgators wooed the crowd with demos, quizzes and hot jazzy music. As the band’s name implies, all the music and sound effects played back were generated solely from a Sound Blaster AWE64 Gold. The MIDIgators had their music instruments - MIDI guitars, keyboards and drum pad - hooked up to the AWE64 Gold.

AWE64’s superb quality and expressive sound made it a smashing hit. After every show, lines extending to as many as 30 interested customer were formed at the info desk waiting to place their orders. Just imagine, a Sound Blaster AWE64 was sold approximately at every 45 seconds!

Here, participants could battle each other in the Quake game that was displayed on a 9x9 wall. Winners of the competiton won Death Match shirts and chances at other Creative Labs products which include 3D Blaster and Graphics Blaster.

In addition to this, there were twenty individual product work stations where attendees could receive a one-to one demonstration of our hottest products. Attendees who came into the booth to see our exciting products and demonstrations also walked away with a flashy bag of the Sound Blaster AWE64 and AWE64 Gold visual.
