3D Blaster PCI FAQ

  1. Which PCI slot should I use? or Why does the display still come from the built-in VGA on the motherboard?
PCI slots are physically prioritized. Slot 1 gets the highest priority. For best performance, put the 3D Blaster PCI into Slot 1 (see your motherboard documentation for the location of Slot 1.) This is most important if there is a VGA included on the motherboard. If the 3D Blaster PCI is put into a slot with a lower priority than the onboard VGA, then the onboard VGA will continue to be the primary display and the system will not be using the 3D Blaster PCI for VGA display.
  2. Does 3D Blaster PCI need an IRQ to work with?
YES. If no IRQ is assigned by your system, 3D Blaster PCI will still function but only as a normal VGA, and it will not be able to run 3D games. See your computer dealer for assistance if your system does not allocate an IRQ to the 3D Blaster.
  3. I encounter blank displays, missing colors, and missing pixels/text after 3D Blaster PCI is installed, what should I do?
Ensure that PCI VGA Palette Snoop in CMOS is Disabled. If PCI/VGA Palette Snoop is enabled, any IO access on the ISA-bus to the VGA card's palette registers is reflected on the PCI bus. This allows overlay cards such as the Video Blaster to adapt to changing palette colors. If you don't need this functionality, it's best to turn it off since it slows down performance.
  4. After installing 3D Blaster PCI, my system occasionally hangs, gets a blank screen or corrupted screen display. What could it be wrong?
Your 3D Blaster PCI BIOS might not be compatible with your motherboard BIOS. Upgrade the 3D Blaster PCI BIOS to version 1.00.58.01 or higher. Retrieve the self-extracting file 3dbpbup.exe from our WEB site. Run 3dbpbup.exe to uncompress. Upgrading instructions are in the README.TXT file.
  5. Can I use 3D Blaster PCI together with another VGA card in my system?
It is not recommended to use the 3D Blaster PCI with another display adapter in the same system. It may be possible to do it, but the complex procedures that are necessary to accomplish the feat are beyond the scope of this document.
  6. What should I do to optimize my system for 3D Blaster PCI?
If available, see that the following settings are enabled in CMOS for optimum performance; Peer Concurrency and PCI Streaming.
