Installing CD-ROM drives in Windows NT 4.0

This is a very quick step-by-step guide for installing CD-ROM drives into Windows NT 4.0. You may wish to print this out so you can have iton hand when you're installing. If you have difficulty, please contact your nearest Creative tech support office.

Proprietary 1x & 2x CD-ROM drives | SCSI CD-ROM drives | IDE 4x and higher CD-ROM drives

Proprietary 1x & 2x CD-ROM drives

Early Creative drives generally used proprietary interfaces of one kind or another. The CR-521, CR-523, CR-531, and CR-563 drives are all Panasonic/MKE drives; other 2x drives have Mitsumi and Sony interfaces.

Panasonic/MKE 1x & 2x CD-ROM Installation
Panasonic drivers are included with Windows NT 4.0. To install the driver:

  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Select SCSI Adapters
  3. Click on the "Drivers" tab
  4. Click on "Add"
  5. In the Manufacturers list, select "MKE Panasonic [Matshushita-Kotobuki Electronics]"
  6. In the SCSI Adapter list, select "MKE Panasonic CD-ROM Controller"

Mitsumi 2x CD-ROM Installation
Mitsumi drivers are included with Windows NT 4.0. To install the driver:

  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Select SCSI Adapters
  3. Click on the "Drivers" tab
  4. Click on "Add"
  5. In the Manufacturers list, select "Mitsumi"
  6. In the SCSI Adapter list, select "Mitusmi CD-ROM Controller with Double Speed Drive"

Sony 2x CD-ROM Installation
Sony drivers are included with Windows NT 4.0. To install the driver:

  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Select SCSI Adapters
  3. Click on the "Drivers" tab
  4. Click on "Add"
  5. In the Manufacturers list, select "Sony"
  6. In the SCSI Adapter list, select "Sony Proprietary CD-ROM Controller"

SCSI CD-ROM drives

Our SB16 SCSI (CT177x) series uses an Adaptec SCSI-2 interface. Adaptec SCSI drivers are included with Windows NT 4.0. To install the driver:

  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Select SCSI Adapters
  3. Click on the "Drivers" tab
  4. Click on "Add"
  5. In the Manufacturers list, select "Adaptec"
  6. In the SCSI Adapter list, select one of the following:
    Adaptec AHA-1510 SCSI Host Adapter
    Adaptec AHA-152x/AHA-1510 SCSI Host Adapter
    Adaptec AIC-6x60 ISA Single-Chip SCSI Controller

IDE CD-ROM drives

IDE CDROM drivers are included with Windows NT 4.0. To install the driver:

  1. Go to the Control Panel
  2. Select SCSI Adapters
  3. Click on the "Drivers" tab
  4. Click on "Add"
  5. In the Manufacturers list, select "(Standard Mass Storage Controller)"
  6. In the SCSI Adapter list, select "IDE CDROM(ATAPI 1.2)/Dual Channel PCI Controller"
