Connecting An IDE CD-ROM To Your System

Question:

Can I use an IDE CD-ROM (e.g. CD620E) on my soundcard which does not have an IDE interface (e.g. SB16MCD, etc)?

Answer:

Yes. Simply connect the IDE CD-ROM to your secondary IDE port if you have one, or to your existing primary IDE port as a slave to your harddisk. The 2nd option will only work if you have only one harddisk. If you have 2 harddisks, you will need to connect it to your secondary IDE port. If your existing harddisk controller has only a single IDE port, you will have to get an EIDE controller which has 2 IDE ports, allowing you to use up to 4 IDE devices, including your harddisks and IDE CD-ROM.

You will also need our SBIDE driver. Load it into CONFIG.SYS as a device driver as follows:-

Primary Port : DEVICE=C:\SBCD\DRV\SBIDE.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:1F0,14

Secondary Port : DEVICE=C:\SBCD\DRV\SBIDE.SYS /D:MSCD001 /P:170,15

In your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you should have a line which says:

MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /M:8 /V
