SOUNDFONT TECHNOLOGY GOES AUDIOACTIVE

The Blue Ribbon SoundWorks, Ltd. specializes in intelligent music technology for sound cards. Aside from a line of consumer music products, we also license our technology to game and interactive multimedia developers. Adding SoundFont support to our product line was one of the simplest and wisest moves we've made in a long time.

Originally, we had decided to apply SoundFont to our entry level product, EasyKeys. Easykeys mimics a consumer electronic keyboard with some additional musical smarts thrown in. By adding SoundFont support to Easykeys, we quickly enabled the user to replace the General MIDI instruments with everything from instruments that subtly change the mood, to bizarre sounds like howling cats for the lead line. Once we had finished work on Easykeys, we realized it was so easy (less than one day's work) that we also decided to add SoundFont support to SoundTrack Express. This program uses our technology (the AudioActive DLL) to generate original MIDI soundtracks. But, instead of merely adding SoundFont support to Soundtrack Express, we decided to put it into the Audioactive DLL directly, so now almost all our applications support SoundFonts. We consider this to be a big win.

While this is obviously good news for us, it is also good news for other developers. If you are considering licensing the Audioactive DLL for your game, screen saver, or interactive title, you'll be getting SoundFont support built-in for free. The power of Audioactive engine lies in its ability to compose and perform original music in real time, enabling it to follow a scene musically, much like the house band in an old silent movie theater. As you can imagine, SoundFont support greatly enhances such an environment, because now the musical instruments can be tailored exactly to the ambiance of the scene, far beyond the limits of the General MIDI presets.
