Creative Introduces New Line of 8x Multimedia Upgrade Kits

New Kits Extend Award-Winning Line With The Latest In CD-ROM And Audio Technology

Singapore -- March 4, 1996 -- Creative Labs, Inc., a subsidiary of Creative Technology Ltd. (NASDAQ: CREAF), today extended its award-winning line of multimedia products with three new 8x-speed CD-ROM drive upgrade kits. These kits include the latest in CD-ROM and audio technology, that combined provides the consumer with a more realistic and immersive multimedia experience. Targeted at the first-time buyer, and at multimedia PC users looking to upgrade their older technology, the new kits deliver premium performance at an affordable price.

Creative's new family of multimedia upgrade kits includes Blaster CD™ 8x, for an estimated street price of $249; Sound Blaster® Discovery CD™ 8x, for an estimated street price of $379; and Sound Blaster Performance™ 8x, for an estimated street price of $449. The 8x multimedia upgrade kits will be available in March through Creative's extensive network of distributors and retailers.

Blaster CD 8x

Blaster CD 8x includes Creative's own 8x IDE CD-ROM drive. Designed with a unique, patent-pending feature, the drive detects the optimum speed a CD-ROM requires and adjusts its spin rate to provide smooth playback of the title. It also includes CD-Extra support, a new format for combining audio and data on a CD. The Blaster CD 8x delivers a 230 ms average access speed, a 1200 KB/second transfer rate, and features a 256 KB memory buffer. Also included in the package are Papyrus' NASCAR® Racing; Accolade's Cyclemania™; Mindscape's The 1996 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia™; QuickCD audio player; and a Plug and Play interface card.

Sound Blaster Performance 8x

Sound Blaster Performance 8x is Creative's top-of-the-line offering. It includes the Creative 8x CD-ROM drive; a Sound Blaster 32 PnP wave-table sound card, based on the EMU8000 chip, which incorporates Creative's 3D Stereo Enhancement Technology™ for a deeper, richer sound experience, and can be upgraded with additional memory to take advantage of SoundFonts® and E-mu 3D Positional Audio™. The kit also includes a set of high-performance, amplified, 2-way, 20 watts per channel stereo speakers valued at $100 that complete the high-quality audio experience; and the latest in CD-ROM multimedia titles: LucasArts' The Dig™ and Star Wars® Rebel Assault II™ Special Edition; Accolade's Unnecessary Roughness '95; 21st Century Entertainment's Pinball Dreams Deluxe; Interplay's Cyberia Mission Norway™ and Virtual Pool™ Straight/8; Dorling Kindersley's Eyewitness Encyclopedia of Science and David Macaulay - The Way Things Work; Mindscape's The 1996 Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia; Voyetra's MIDI Orchestrator™ Plus for Windows®; Creative Soundo'LE™, Creative WaveStudio®, Creative TextAssist™, Creative Mixer, and Creative Multimedia Deck™.
